There is something magical about late summer in New England.
August still feels unapologetically summery—salt air, outdoor concerts, seafood, art fairs, white linen, island nights and cocktails by the water. Then September arrives and the entire region changes character. The crowds thin, the weather often remains gorgeous, and the cultural calendar keeps going.
Cape Cod even calls this period “Second Summer”—the post-Labor Day stretch when the Cape settles into a slightly slower rhythm while festivals and seaside events continue.
So if you're determined to squeeze every last drop out of summer, here is my curated August 1 through September 30, 2026 event calendar, focusing specifically on art, music, festivals, food and fashion.
Important: Event times can change, especially for outdoor events. I've included published times where organizers have released them and marked events as time TBA when a reliable current time wasn't published.

AUGUST 1–2
🎨 Chatham Summer Craft Festival
Chatham, Cape Cod
Saturday, August 1 — 10 AM–5 PM
Sunday, August 2 — 10 AM–4 PM

Start the month in Chatham, surrounded by more than 50 juried artisans and specialty-food makers.
Expect jewelry, coastal art, home décor, bath and body products, photography, handmade gifts and gourmet treats.
This is exactly the kind of event where you can spend the afternoon shopping for something beautiful, grab lunch downtown and finish the day watching the boats come into the harbor.
My tip: Wear something effortlessly Cape Cod—linen, sandals, oversized sunglasses and a straw bag.
🍝 AUGUST 7
La Tavola Italian Feast Under the Stars

This is one of my favorite end-of-summer date-night recommendations.
La Tavola transforms Mashpee into a little slice of Italy with a five-course Italian dinner, music and an outdoor setting.
The 2026 menu includes salad, baked penne, roasted vegetables, meatballs, chicken Parmesan, sorbet and cannoli.
Entertainment includes Italian tenor Aaron Caruso and young performers from Steeple Street Music Academy.

First Friday Vineyard Haven + Martha's Vineyard Arts
Martha's Vineyard's First Friday is one of those events that feels more like being invited into the island's creative community than attending a conventional festival.
The Vineyard's summer calendar includes First Friday events with art, vendors, food and live music, with the August edition running into the evening.
August 7 — approximately 5–11 PM
Spend the afternoon exploring galleries and boutiques, then stay for music and food.
Perfect itinerary:
5 PM: Gallery hopping
7 PM: Dinner
8:30 PM: Live music
10 PM: Cocktails / waterfront stroll

Charles River Jazz Festival

Pack a blanket and head to the Charles River for an afternoon of jazz.
The festival is free and features local musicians in a beautiful outdoor setting.

Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival

📍 Martha's Vineyard Performing Arts Center
This is one of the Vineyard's signature cultural events and one I would absolutely put on a Black culture + luxury summer itinerary.
The festival brings filmmakers, actors, artists and audiences together for screenings and conversations during one of the island's most culturally significant weeks. The 2026 calendar lists the festival as running daily through August 15.
Why go?
Because this isn't simply a movie night.
It's an opportunity to experience film, fashion, celebrity culture, Black creativity and Martha's Vineyard summer culture in one trip.

Cape Cod Jazz & Arts Festival — Grace Kelly

Saxophonist, vocalist and composer Grace Kelly returns to the Cape Cod Jazz Festival.

Martha's Vineyard Agricultural Fair
West Tisbury
August 13–16
This is quintessential Vineyard summer.
The 164th Agricultural Fair features livestock, 4-H exhibits, food, rides, agricultural competitions, crafts and plenty of old-school island charm. Published 2026 information lists:
Thursday–Saturday: 10 AM–11 PM
Sunday: 9:30 AM–7 PM.
And yes, you should absolutely eat your way through it.

Fisherman's Feast
Boston North End
This is one of Boston's great summer traditions.
August 13–16
The Fisherman's Feast combines Italian-American culture, food vendors, live music, cooking demonstrations, street celebrations and the famous Sunday-night Flight of the Angel.
My advice:
Go hungry.
Then walk Hanover Street afterward and turn the festival into a full North End food crawl.

If you want music, fashion, food, art and African culture, put this on your calendar.
The festival celebrates African arts and culture with music, dance, food, vendors and cultural programming.
This would make an excellent Robinson Travel recommendation for clients looking for culturally immersive Boston experiences.

The historic Oak Bluffs Campground comes alive with illuminated cottages and a community celebration.

Go before sunset, walk the gingerbread cottages, eat dinner and stay after dark.
This is the kind of experience where the destination itself becomes the event.

Another classic Vineyard summer finale.

For lovers of jazz, neo-soul and R&B, this is one of the more interesting ways to experience the Vineyard beyond the traditional tourist itinerary. The 2026 island calendar lists the event for August 22.

This is where I think the smartest travelers have an advantage.
September on Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard is spectacular.
You still have summer weather, but fewer crowds—and many of the cultural events continue.

Technically outside your August 1–September 30 window, but I would put this on the radar now because Boston Fashion Week has officially announced its 2026 dates.

The first official 2026 calendar is scheduled to be released September 4, so September is when fashion lovers should start watching the schedule.

🥂 HOW I WOULD DO THE LAST TWO MONTHS
AUGUST = THE BIG SUMMER
August is for Martha's Vineyard weekends, outdoor concerts, seafood, Italian feasts, jazz, fireworks, art festivals and dressing up.
My ideal itinerary:
Friday: Vineyard
Saturday: Film festival / art / beach
Saturday night: Oak Bluffs dinner + music
Sunday: Brunch + galleries + ferry home
Then:
Cape Cod weekend → Chatham art → Mashpee Italian dinner → Harwich jazz → Provincetown nightlife.
🍂 SEPTEMBER = SECOND SUMMER
This is when I'd actually encourage my clients to come.
Cape Cod's official tourism organization describes post-Labor-Day Cape Cod as “Second Summer,” emphasizing warmer weather, a slower atmosphere and continuing seaside festivals.
And Martha's Vineyard's September calendar is equally compelling: the island's Striped Bass Derby begins September 13 and runs into October, while September brings fewer crowds and continued cultural programming.
So don't think:
“Summer is over.”
Think:
“The locals' summer is beginning.”
The restaurants are still open.
The ocean is still warm.
The sunsets are still spectacular.
The art scene is still alive.
The festivals continue.
And you don't have to fight quite as hard for a parking space.
✈️ THE ULTIMATE END-OF-SUMMER WEEKEND
If I were creating one Luxe Life / Robinson Travel signature New England itinerary, I'd do:
FRIDAY — BOSTON
SoWa art + design → Newbury Street → luxury dinner
SATURDAY — CAPE COD
Chatham → art festival → seafood lunch → sunset
SUNDAY — MARTHA'S VINEYARD
Ferry → Edgartown → Oak Bluffs → galleries → dinner → sunset
MONDAY
Slow breakfast → beach → ferry home
That's not just a vacation. That's a proper New England summer finale. 🌊🥂
